Irvine Junior Game

Dear Vista Verde Parents,

It’s that time of the year again for Irvine Junior Games. What is Irvine Junior Games? It’s basically a track and field day where students from the same grade can compete with other students from Irvine schools. Here’s a little more background information about Irvine Junior Games:

The Irvine Children’s Fund (ICF) is pleased to announce the kick off and celebration of the 31st ANNUAL IRVINE JUNIOR GAMES (IJG), which will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2018, at Irvine Stadium.

Through the Irvine Junior Games, corporate and personal sponsorships, and grants, the Irvine Children’s Fund proudly donated more than $1,7400,000 for childcare scholarships to over 1,500 children. Additionally, $230,900 was donated to maintain and expand childcare facilities, and $21,900 to complete the ADA upgrades at 7 child care sites. ICF also donated more than $199,000 in grants for instructional and athletic equipment to participating schools and $172,000 to childcare sites for activities and supplies. These donations now total over $2.8 million and serve as an awesome contribution to help our childcare sites and schools.

For 2017-2018, ICF committed $120,000 to before and After School Child Care Scholarships on the childcare sites. The Irvine Junior Games celebrates its 31st year and its continued growth and success because of the partnership among the IUSD, the Irvine Child Care Project, the Irvine Children’s Fund, and Games. We continue to have 100% participation from the 30 elementary and middle schools with more than 1,500 students in grades 4-8 participating in the track and field events, including special events for the Adaptive P.E. students.

Below is some important information and dates for the Irvine Junior Games.

  • Irvine Junior Games is for 4th-8th grade students only
  • The event is Sunday, May 5th (Check-in begins at 8:15 am)
  • Located at Irvine High School on the football field
  • Entry fee is $40 per athlete and includes entry and a T-Shirt
  • Register online at http://www.irvinejuniorgames.com
  • LAST DAY TO REGISTER FEBRUARAY 22nd

IMPORTANT for 4th-6th Grade Athletes

50 and 100 yard Sprints

  • We can only have 4 boys and 4 girls per Grade for the 50 and 100 yard sprint
  • Due to the high number of participants, tryouts will be held in early March
  • IF your student does not make the team, there will be spots open for the 400 distance
  • Also, students can only sign-up for ONE FIELD EVENT ( basketball shot, standing long jump, soccer kick or bag toss)
  • There will also be a relay team for each grade boys and girls (4 runners)
  • Relay tryouts will also take place in early March

IMPORTANT for 7th-8th Grade Athletes

  • Athletes can ONLY sign-up for TWO field events (soccer kick, running long jump or basketball shot)

PRACTICE SCHEDULE

  • I will hold practice two times a week starting in March (more details to come)
  • Practice will be held after school for about 45 minutes

Lastly, encourage your kids to come out and participate no matter what. It is a great event in which Vista Verde students get to compete and have fun against other schools in the district and it is a great fundraiser for Irvine Children’s Fund.

Sincerely,

Coach Dave
