Science Olympiad-Elementary: A Fun and Educational Extracurricular Activity!
Science Olympiad is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing K-12 science education, fostering a love for science, and recognizing outstanding academic achievement. This engaging program offers a hands-on approach to learning that promotes teamwork, cooperation, and problem-solving skills.
Who Can Compete?
Students in Grades 4 to 6 at Vista Verde who have an interest in advanced science and engineering are encouraged to join!
Team Commitments:
- Each student will be assigned up to three science events.
- Teamwork with fellow VV students is required.
- Weekly independent study is essential.
- Parent volunteering/coaching is required for participation.
- Attendance at the OC Regional Tournament on May 3, 2025, is mandatory. Please do not enroll if you cannot commit to being there!

AMC8 Middle School Math Competition
The AMC 8 is a multiple choice math competition held by the Mathematical Association of America for middle school students, in grades 6-8. Students test their knowledge of middle school math including pre-algebra, geometry, counting and probability, number theory, reading information on charts and graphs and beginning algebra.
Test duration is 40 minutes and calculators are not allowed.Test Date: Thursday, January 23 at 3pm
Test Location: Mrs. Jones’s classroom
Parents should plan on picking up at the front of the school at 4:00 PM. Registration is required. Walk-ins or late sign ups cannot be accommodated. Sign up now by completing the registration form by January 17th. Click here to register: AMC8 math test signup

Turtle Rock Nature Center Plant Workshop
Turtle Rock Nature Center is hosting an educational workshop about the importance of native plants on January 25th, from 10am – 11am.. The workshop will be interactive and consist of activities like a guided nature walk, guessing games, and trivia questions. Students in grades 6-8 are welcome to join.
