ABC’s of Water Safety and Fireworks

ABC’s of Water Safety

C is for Classes. Take first aid, CPR, and swimming classes, and follow the safety tips included in our ABC’s of Water Safety flyer and social media posts. Always keep a phone nearby to call 9-1-1. Teach children that running, jumping, and pushing others on pool decks is dangerous and can cause injuries. Always enter the pool feet first so you know how deep the water is in that area.

Fireworks

Firework injuries are increasing by 535 each year. Safe and Sane fireworks are only legal in the cities of Anaheim, Buena Park, Costa Mesa, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Los Alamitos, Santa Ana, Stanton, Villa Park, and Westminster. Only purchase Safe and Sane fireworks that are State Fire Marshal approved and follow the safety tips included in our Fireworks flyer and social media post.

In case of an accident, call 9-1-1 and run cool water over any burn.
Light fireworks outdoors in a clear area and at a safe distance away from people, homes, vehicles, or flammable materials.
Never point or throw fireworks at another person.

Lisa Herzog’s Retirement

Congratulations to Lisa Herzog, who will retire this June after an astonishing 37 year-connection with Vista Verde!

Mrs Herzog started as a VV Staff Spouse to School Psychologist hubby Dennis, back in the 1980s, transitioning to Parent Volunteer in the 2000s, actively working on Coffee Connections, World Fairs, dances, field trips, and classroom assistance.
For 11 years, she headed the PTA supported IUSD Arts Advantage program, where she taught, not only the regular AA curriculum, but worked closely with other VV Staff to design additional art-based lessons to supplement classroom teaching in Science, Creative Writing, and more.
During the past 15+ years, Vista Verde has been lucky to have Mrs Herzog in a more traditional Instructional Assistant role, assisting students individually and in a variety of classroom settings.
In retirement, Lisa plans to continue creating art and designing jewelry, as well as volunteering with after school tutoring and art projects for the Boys & Girls Club of Tustin.
We will miss Lisa Herzog’s soft voice, huge smile, and endless positivity and creativity.  Best of luck, Lisa!

Thank You!!!

Congratulations to the Class of 2024!
