LAST TWO WEEKS FOR PTA MEMBERSHIP CLASS CONTEST

In today’s crazy uncertain world, together or apart, IVA, Hybrid or Traditional – one thing that is certain… We are all Vista Verde Vikings!

2020 has certainly made us realize that everything we thought we know, we really don’t know! Our one true strength and certainty comes from community and togetherness. The Vista Verde PTA has been working quietly on the side lines making sure that our teachers, students, and their families are all supported during these challenging times.

As we start off this year’s membership drive, please know how valuable and important each and every family is to our Viking Community. Your membership donations are used throughout the school year for multiple programs, supplies, and events. This year events are taking a different turn – but your donations are still being used for the greater good for our school. Lexia, ST Math, Raz Kids, Reflections Art Competition, Square 1 Art, AEFA programs, Math and Science Olympiads, 5th Grade Ladies Tea and Guys Night, 8th Grade promotion are just a few of the programs that the PTA facilitates.

Please consider joining our Vista Verde PTA – no matter the format of schooling you have chosen. We all reap the benefit of being a Vista Verde Viking. Membership is open to all members of our community, parents, teachers, grandparents, care givers, and friends. Consider sponsoring one of your teachers for the PTA too – and

let’s come together as a community and support the Vista Verde PTA.

There are only two weeks left! Our traditional annual class competition will still take place from October 1 –  31. Top three classes with the most percentage of memberships by October 31st will win a pizza party – Covid Friendly Style with gift certificates.

Don’t forget to subscribe to the Vista Verde PTA e-news for weekly updates, and follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Click here to join.

Best Wishes,

The Vista Verde PTA Membership Team

2022-2023 NATIONAL REFLECTIONS THEME CONTEST

Help us pick the theme idea that will spark fun and creativity during the 2022—2023 Reflections program! The student who submits the winning entry will receive a $100 prize from National PTA.

National PTA’s Reflections program has helped students explore their own thoughts, feelings and ideas, develop artistic literacy, increase confidence and find a love for learning that will help them become more successful in school and in life.

Each year, over 300,000 students in Pre-K through Grade 12 create original works of art in Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography, and Visual Arts in response to a student-selected theme.

Past themes and duplicate submissions are not considered. This means we’re looking for the most original theme ideas.

To participate, please submit your theme idea online by November 1, 2020.

REFLECTIONS: I MATTER BECAUSE…

THANK YOU VIKINGS! First of all, THANK YOU to all the teachers and Instructional Aids who shared their videos about why they matter! They have kept their chin ups both in person and in the Irvine Virtual Academy and have been working extra hard for the sake of our kids! VV teachers and staff, you really matter to us, and don’t you forget it!

Thank you to all of our students who have submitted their artwork to the Reflections team! Wednesday was the deadline to submit.

All submissions were sent virtually. No artwork should have been dropped off at the school.

What’s next? Judging!  Our judges are anonymous and will judge anonymously. All judges are experts in their assigned categories. Judges strongly consider the interpretation of the Reflections theme during the evaluation process. It is suggested that students give their submissions a title that stands out and describes how the piece relates to the student’s personal interpretation of the theme.

Judges will observe the artwork and read the artist statement carefully.

·       How does the work relate to the theme?

·       What is the personal connection to the theme?

·       What did the student use to create the work (e.g., supplies, technology, instrumentation, props, etc.)?

·       What/who was their inspiration?

Judging will be based on the following point system:

1.    Interpretation of theme: How closely the artwork communicates the theme based on the artwork itself and the artist statement. (40 points)

2.    Artistic merit & creativity: How creative and original the artwork is in its conception of the theme and its presentation. (30 points)

3.    Master of medium: The level of skill demonstrated in the basic principles/techniques of the artistic discipline. (30 points)

Winners will be announced in the next week’s newsletter! All first place winners will move on to the next level: Irvine Council!

If you would like to get involved or have any questions, please contact Lili LaBuen Gillen or Roxi Carter at  reflections@vistaverdepta.org.
